On behalf of the Global Business and Management Forum (GBMF) USA, the Department of Finance and GBMF Bangladesh Chapter are pleased to invite you to register and participate at the 2nd GBMF 2009 conference.  The conference is to provide a platform to bring together academicians, scholars, practicing managers of different parts of the world and exchange views and experience on the theme “World Financial Crisis and Global Business Challenges

CONFERENCE THEME

World Financial Crisis and Global Business Challenges

Global financial crisis started with the US financial crisis. The crisis had its seed in the ‘targeted credit program’ enacted by the US lawmakers for the less fortunate and less creditworthy potential homeowners – what is known as Sub-prime mortgage credit. It began in the sub-prime mortgage crisis in mid 2007 when two Bear Stearns hedge funds collapsed. During boom times, mortgage brokers tempted by big commissions convinced buyers with poor credit worthiness and high risk to accept housing mortgages with little or no down payment. Lenders sought additional profits through these higher risk loans, and they charged interest rates above prime in order to compensate for the additional risk they assumed. Consequently, once the rate of sub-prime mortgage foreclosures skyrocketed, many lenders experienced extreme financial difficulties, and even bankruptcy. The impact continued with a very strong effect and that made the country’s economy more vulnerable allover the world. World stock markets have fallen, large Financial Institutions, Investment Banks and Industrial Giants have collapsed or been bought out, and governments in even the wealthiest nations have had to come up with rescue packages to bail out their financial and economic systems. On the one hand, many people are concerned that those responsible for the financial problems are the ones being bailed out, while on the other hand, a global financial meltdown affected the livelihoods of almost everyone in an increasingly inter-connected world though affecting investments and growth. The crisis from the financial market that originated in the United States and Europe is now hurting the real economies, and the crisis has spread to most parts of the world. As the financial crisis has turned into an economic recession in nearly all OECD countries, governments are pumping money into the banking and real sectors in ways never seen before. Prospects for global growth have deteriorated over the past few months, as the financial deleveraging has continued and the confidence level of producers and consumers have fallen significantly.

The new global challenge from economic meltdown emerges --- stemming the tide of rising protectionism on the one hand. The economic recession resulting from global financial crisis has necessitated regulatory reforms, and restructuring industrial entities and business enterprises on the other. As a consequence the business enterprises and corporate bodies are to focus on reengineering processes, diversity in products and services in terms of global market, strengthening disclosures and financial reporting, and rethinking of compensation package issue. Good enterprise governance and changed strategies are needed to make the businesses, industries and financial institutions survivable and sustainable in the integrated economy of the age of globalization.

The GBMF 2009 Conference is going to be organized to discuss and deliberate these emerging issues and challenges for the sustainable growth and expectations of the countries, organizations and people of the world.

Abstracts and/or research papers are invited on all management and business related topics such as, management, marketing, finance, accounting, economics, capital market, Information system, micro credit, environmental issues, CSR, corporate governance, Global business strategies etc. with relevance to the conference theme.

Papers presented at the conference will be considered for publication in a special issue of the Global Business and Management Journal (GBMJ). Selected papers will be considered for publication after a double blind review process.  The GBMJ is an international refereed journal.

ABOUT GBMF

Today’s business is globalized. There is not a single business in this world which is not international. As markets continue to liberalize to foster stronger and more sustained economic growth, businesses and governments witness a surge in demand for more and better business information. This information can only be assembled by the assembly of thoughts of the intellectuals. GBMF is a Forum which can be instrumental to foster such development by assembling such intellectuals by arranging annual conferences, publishing newsletter and journal and research notes etc. The hallmark of the forum is to create and disseminate business information in the form of research, interactions, sharing opinions, and networking. It becomes crucial for academicians and other professionals with interest in business and management to learn from each other and to network with other institutions. The Global Business and Management Forum (GBMF) – a US based global platform was created on 18 October 2007 to provide a forum for dialogue, collaborative teaching and research, and knowledge sharing among the academic, practitioners, and regulatory bodies involved in business and management, and related fields throughout the world for the benefit of global business. The specific objectives of GBMF are:

  • to promote research in all significant aspects of business and management;
  • to propagate best of breed practices in business and management;
  • to publish journal, working papers, research monographs, books that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in all business disciplines;
  • to develop and maintain relations with national and international organizations that have similar objectives in propagating business knowledge;
  • to facilitate constructive links between business scholars for the purpose of furthering the stated objectives of the forum;
  • to bring together scholars and practioners in business and management disciplines through conferences and networking; and
  • to provide an international platform to exchange research findings and pedagogical approaches.

The Forum’s policy is to encourage networking and knowledge sharing by inviting participation from academics, executives, researchers of all countries of the world and government leaders interested in business and management scholarship, education, and training. The GBMF is registered in USA and headquartered in University of Nebraska at Omaha.
