Global Business & Management Forum (GBMF) Second International Conference Successfully Held on Dec. 22-23, 2009 in Dhaka, Bangladesh
The Second International conference of GBMF, headquartered at University of Nebraska at Omaha College of Business Administration, USA, was held on Dec. 22-23 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The conference, jointly organized by GBMF and the University of Dhaka, focused on the recent Global financial crisis and the current business challenges. The conference was attended by a total of 200 academicians and corporate executives; the Honorable Mr. Faruk Khan, Minister of Commerce, Peoples republic of Bangladesh and the Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr. Atiur Rahman attended as the keynote speakers. A total of thirty-nine research papers were presented at the conference, majority of the papers were presented by researchers from Australia, UK, India, USA, and Kazakhstan. Professor Ziaul Huq, President of GBMF, in his welcome and Valedictory session addresses stressed the need for dissemination/sharing of business and management ideas because business is more international today than it has ever been. The Commerce Minister thanked GBMF for organizing the conference, he stressed the importance of such conferences to developing countries to learn from so that they can manage their economic challenges more effectively. In his keynote speech, the Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Atiur Rahman outlined the economic challenges that lay ahead for developing countries and the responses they must be ready with. He was very happy to report that the recent crisis had minimal effect on the financial markets in Bangladesh due to regulated short term external capital flows. The conference Chair Dr. Osman Imam in his speech focused on the opportunity created by this conference to address the future business challenges for sustainable growth around the world. Finance are noteworthy. The conference was held in the newly constructed five star Senate building of Dhaka University.
Among other speakers the Vice-chancellor of Dhaka University Prof. Arefin Siddique spoke about the importance of such conferences to showcase the leadership of the Department of Finance and that of the University of Dhaka in the corporate world. Prof. Harun-or-Rashid the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University spoke at the valedictory session, he thanked GBMF and the Department of Finance for organizing the conference that is very pertinent to the demand of the time. Dr. Jamal Uddin Ahmed, conference co-chair spoke at the inaugural session and thanked all the participants, members of the organizing committee, and the volunteers for their hard work. Dr. Meshquat Uddin, GBMF Bangladesh Chapter President and one of the co-chairs of the conference summed up the conference presentations in the valedictory session, Prof. Salahuddin Ahmed Khan made the closing remarks, and Dr. Nazrul Islam, GBMF General Secretary delivered the vote of thanks at the conclusion of the conference.
